Awesome place to enjoy onsen . As per the history , the onsen water contain medicinal properties. Worth to try it. Very crowded in weekends, better to avoid .

Breathtaking!!!! Such a luxury culture is in here. No people at all apart from central area, but significant view and Onsen smell attract lots of people

The highlight of Kusatsu Onsen is Yubatake, especially at night all lit up! Literally meaning "Hot Water Field", Yubatake is the symbol of this hot spring town. It's literally in the centre of Kusatsu so every you go, you will definitely hear, smell and see this bubbling wonder!

The source is something to see at least once. The illuminations at night are beautiful and the smell of sulfur surprising. Ashiyu (foot bath) is freely available. Recommend to go and see Yumomi during the day, it is short and interesting. If the trip is not planned yet, best to book a Ryokan with meal included : the restaurants on site were not good.

Really lovely place with a nice atmosphere, lots of amenities and souvenir shops. Definitely worth a visit to try the onsens here. It gets cold in winter here so bring a warm coat! Also I suggest bringing easy to take off shoes and a small towel as there are loads of foot baths here.

One of the most cute towns si have seen. Visited in Feb 26, snow tires is required for sure. Gets dark soon and visibility is not good so do not recommend to drive too late if you go alone like me.

Really interesting area. We parked by the train station and walked over. I don’t see any parking nearby but the walk is easy and stroller friendly. This area has lots of souvenir shops as well as restaurants and street food. You can shop and eat to your hearts content! The area does have that unique sulphuric rotten egg smell but that lends more charm to the experience. Bring a little towel so you can soak your feet in the nearby foot baths.
