築城年代は定かではないが篠脇城主東常縁の庶子遠藤盛胤によって築かれたと云われる。盛胤の孫にあたる遠藤胤縁の頃には主家東氏を凌ぐ程の勢力となり、東常慶の子常尭は遠藤氏と婚姻を結んで勢力の回復を計ろうとしたが、胤縁は畑佐氏に嫁がせ、これを恨んだ常尭は永禄2年(1559年)赤谷山城で胤縁を暗殺した。これに対して苅安城主で遠藤胤縁の弟遠藤盛数は、胤縁の嫡子遠藤胤俊を助けて赤谷山城を攻め落とした。しかし、盛数は郡上八幡城を築きいて自身が郡上郡を支配し、嫡子胤俊には木越城を与えた。その後、遠藤胤俊の弟胤基が家督を継いで木越城主となっていたが、天正16年(1588年)郡上八幡城主遠藤慶隆とともに織田信孝に与したことで、羽柴秀吉に所領を没収され犬地六千五百石へ転封となった。

Tsunei, who married him and resented it, assassinated his grandson at Akayayama Castle in 1559. On the other hand, Morikazu Endo, the lord of Kayasu Castle and his younger brother, Satoshi Endo, helped Satoshi Endo, the lord of Satoshi, to attack Akayayama Castle. However, Shengzhen built Gujo Hachiman Castle and ruled Gujo-gun himself, and gave Gujo Hachiman Castle Kigoshi Castle. After that, Toshiki Endo's younger brother, Somoto, succeeded the family and became the lord of Kikoshi Castle, but in 1588, he confiscated his territory to Hideyoshi Hashiba by giving it to Nobutaka Oda along with Yoshitaka Endo, the lord of Gujo Hachiman Castle. It was transferred to Inuchi 6,500 stones.
