Fantastic restaurants. Great hida beef dishes and Ramen restaurants. Shabu Shabu you name it. The water tastes better than bottled and every street has classic architecture. Avoid the crowds in Takayama and go to Gujo Hachiman.

Theres also some exhibits inside the castle, and you can climb up to the top of the main keep (steep steps) Its a long hike up from the town center, but it could also be accessed by car. There are no restaurants, food stalls or souvenir shops in the castle grounds or on the trail going up. There are some tables and benches in the castle grounds, so you can sit and enjoy the amazing views.

Taxis weren't that many, luckily we were in the Tourist information office at that time and the friendly staff managed to book one for us.. We found the Castle was not that interesting, however, the view of Gujo Hachiman town from above made the visit worthwhile.
