★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 中学生の頃まで基地跡（敷地内に建物）が残っていました。悪い事とは知りながらも同級生とエアーガンを所持しフェンスを乗り越えて敷地内に入っては建物に侵入しエアーガンを撃って遊んだり爆竹を鳴らしたりしていました。敷地内には、消防署跡、映画館跡、学校跡などがありました。知らない学校の連中と出くわすと何故か撃ち合いなっていました。正直、不法侵入です。若気のいたりです。もう時効です。ごめんなさい。
The ruins of a base (a building on the site) remained until I was in junior high school. Even though I knew that it was bad, I had an air gun with my classmates, got over the fence, entered the site, and invaded the building, shooting the air gun and playing firecrackers. There were a fire station, a movie theater, and a school on the site. For some reason, when I met people from a school I didn't know, they were shooting each other. To be honest, it is a trespass. Youthful. It is already prescription. sorry.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 東大和・桜が丘に敗戦まで日立航空のエンジン工場があり、その後米軍に接収されたとは、マンションや商業施設が立ち並ぶ今の風景からは想像できません。流れゆく歴史を伝える貴重な碑。もっと目立つところにあればいいなあ。
It cannot be imagined from the current landscape of condominiums and commercial facilities that the engine factory of Hitachi Airlines was located in Sakuragaoka, Higashiyamato until the defeat, and then requisitioned by the US military. A valuable monument that conveys the flowing history. I wish it was more prominent.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 2021年10月に訪問しましたが、設置場所が50メートルほど東側に移動していました。噴水のあるロータリーの島から北側に渡る横断歩道のすぐ横です。
I visited in October 2021, but the installation location was moved to the east side by about 50 meters. It is right next to the pedestrian crossing that crosses north from the island of Rotary with the fountain.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ この場所がかつて米軍基地だったことを伝える、地元の貴重な歴史的な史跡。この場所は、戦前には軍需工場、戦後すぐに市立の学校になったものの、朝鮮戦争のころに国に強制収容されて米空軍の「大和空軍施設」になり、1973年に返還されました。
玉川上水の北口に出たときは、ちょっと道を渡ってロータリーの真ん中を覗いてみましょう。

この工場は太平洋戦争のとき爆撃にあい、すべてが灰燼に（かいじん）帰しました。
