★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 仙台石の一枚岩で作られた市内最大の石造物です。
第一次世界大戦から第二次世界大戦の、砂川における戦没者・戦災死者の霊を慰めるため建立されたものです。
二八八柱の方々が祀られています。
当時、あまりの大きさに、石を運ぶトレーラーやクレーンを、米軍横田基地から借りた、という逸話が残っています。
