登録有形文化財です。コロナ禍前はうたづのお雛様イベントで大変盛況だった場所でもあります。2021年現在ではイベントもなくなり、寂しい限りです。
宇多津町役場のある旧市街は明治期に建てられた町家が100軒以上も建ち並び、さらに神社仏閣が密集して路地が形成された趣のある街並みが残されています。
他の町家が格子窓を並べた京風の佇まいを見せるのに対して、ここはとんがり屋根の洋館も備えたちょっと異色の物件です。
正式名称は「旧堺家住宅」。地元の肥料商だった堺芳太郎氏の別邸として建てられたもので、建築年代は昭和初期です。
戦前の典型的な近代和風建築で、凝った細工が散りばめられた、豪商の住宅建築です。
黒壇や黒部杉が使われ二重格天井を持つ玄関部も見所の一つですが、その奥に続く12.5畳と10畳による主室と次の間は最も意匠を凝らした空間で豪勢な素材と造作が見られます。

In the old town where the Utazu Town Hall is located, there are more than 100 townhouses built in the Meiji era, and there is a quaint townscape where shrines and temples are densely formed and alleys are formed.
While other townhouses have a Kyoto-style appearance with lattice windows, this is a slightly unique property with a Western-style building with a pointed roof.
The official name is "Old Sakai House". It was built as a villa for Mr. Yoshitaro Sakai, a local fertilizer dealer, and was built in the early Showa period.
It is a typical modern Japanese-style building before the war, and it is a residential building of a wealthy merchant with elaborate workmanship.
One of the highlights is the entrance, which uses black dais and Kurobe cedar and has a double ceiling. Can be seen.
