★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lots of history, architecture and culture hidden in plain site at Ueno Park. Known more for it's greenery, sakura blossoms, the zoo and its pandas as well as its museums, the park has also a significant place in Japan's history and culture that must be seen and explored. Next time you have a chance to walk in the park try to also dig in behind the facade and see a more distant but glorious and even a bit darker side of this amazing place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Easy to walk past the entrance if you are on the main walk way through Ueno park. A secluded path with an impressive pagoda and especially impressive during the cherry blossom season.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The architecture is splendid and it is really different and colourful when compared to any other shrines.
There are many food stalls inside the shrine starting from the Torii gate till the main building.
There is a special entry to the temple where that would be payable.
It has many sakura trees inside which gives a scenic view

Perfect spot to celebrate the New Year and wish for some good luck.
The shrine was built and dedicated to Ieyasu Tokugawa following the end of The Warring States period and features many beautiful areas to relax all year round.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful shrine right next to Ueno Zoo and several great museums! You can walk through the park next door, past the lake where they have paddle boats you can rent to take a stroll on the lake.
The shrine itself is beautiful and the main building has a roof which is a brilliant green, and there are several surrounding buildings as well which you can visit to pray, or take photos.
A great place to stop on your way to the zoo, or when you're on your way to visit the museums in the area.
