A glimpse at the history of Japan. Half fees for students and children, and full free for some member universities.

The buildings were excellent, the exhibitions were good enough, but admission fees were not cheap.

I didn't take many photos since there are lots of things to see. The recommendation is you should go there on the weekdays and enjoy every moment with the artifacts there. Take your time to see things in detail, and understand their meanings.

The Tokyo National Museum in Ueno across the park. Its 500 yen for University Students, free for Geidai students. They have a great collection of ancient Japanese artifacts, as well as temporary exhibitions. There is usually a coffee and wiener sausage stand (truck). The Japanese garden also has a teahouse i think but closes really early at 15:30.

Good place to get a glimpse of Japanese art and culture. There are different buildings and each has a central focus. Displays change only after a couple of years though.

Really enjoyed the Pompei exhibition on now, excellent snapshot of life at that time. They blended not just the sculptures, frescoes, jewelry, art discovered but also modern NHK video and CGI to show what must have happened and how/where the various homes and artifacts were discovered and where in the city. Highly enjoyed, learned a lot here.

Very comprehensive museum about Japan’s history and art. Their information and captions are available in multiple languages (English, Chinese and Korean). I recommend visiting here from morning to cover most of the exhibits. There are also refreshment rooms too for resting.

This was a great way to spend an afternoon in Tokyo. I learned quite a bit. During my visit, they had the Pompeii special exhibition. I chose to opt out of the extra exhibition, but I've seen the Pompeii exhibition in Canada and would highly recommend it. The staff were very friendly and most of the people I interacted with had great English. A big thank you to the kind woman working the door on the backside of the Pompeii exhibition. She gave me directions and was super nice! As for the general admission exhibitions. There were 3 buildings that I went into to see exhibits. A Japanese National Treasures exhibit, an exhibit about Japan in general and an Asia exhibit, which was more focused on China, India and Korea, whom have had a moderate amount of influence on Japan's rise. I really enjoyed learning about the indigenous history of the Ryokyuan and Ainu people. This is a piece of history that is not often spoken of to the West. I'm glad that I was able to learn a little bit about their daily life in a previous time. I was a bit caught off guard when I turned a corner and there was a mummy sitting in front of me. Very fun day that I will speak kindly of for time to come.
