★ ★ ★ ★ ★ みどりの窓口のある有人駅。駅舎は東西両方にあり、片側がJR、もう片側が北越急行の駅舎となっている。そのため、駅スタンプは東西両方にある（収集がちょっとめんどくさい）はず。駅前はそこそこ立派な感じ。たしか西口に駅ピアノと駅ノートっぽいものがあった。待合室も広めで良き。
 A manned station with a green window. There are station buildings on both east and west, one side is JR and the other side is Hokuetsu Express station building. Therefore, station stamps should be on both the east and west (collection is a little troublesome). The front of the station feels pretty good. Certainly there was a station piano and a station notebook at the west exit. The waiting room is also large and good.

ここからは「ほくほく線」に乗り換えます。青春18切符は利用できません。六日町までの切符が必要です。
鉄印帳を購入出来ます。
I got on the Iiyama Line "Oykot" from Nagano Station.
From here, change to the "Hokuhoku Line". Seishun 18 Ticket is not available. You need a ticket to Muikamachi.
You can purchase an iron stamp book.

どちらの路線にとっても主要な駅で、飯山線では貴重なみどりの窓口があり、車庫も併設されていて拠点の駅となっていますし、北越急行ほくほく線にとっても貴重な上下列車交換可能駅です。
地上を走る飯山線と立派な高架の上を走る北越急行が並んでいるので、さながら「新幹線と並行在来線」のようです。
2年前までは雪まつりにe653系がやってきていましたが…。

飯山線においては当駅で運転系統が分かれていて、越後川口方面は上越線との接続が重視されて、津南方面はほくほく線との接続が重視されたダイヤになっています。
飯山線では数少ないみどりの窓口のある駅です。
ほくほく線の鉄印は当駅でいただく事ができます。
