The most beautiful building in Japan.
For a limited time, you should always enter it when you enter the special view. Inside is beautiful, such as floor boards that have not changed since Yoshimasa.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Togu-Do retains its original appearance since construction in 1486. It is therefore national treasure of which Dojindai, a room in its east is the original model of shoin zukuri style tea room, and the hall enshrines the protective deity statue for Shogun Yoshimasa (statues of Amida Nyorai & Yoshimasa himself)

Donggutang was built in 1486 AD as the temple, study and tea room of Ashikaga Yoshimasa. Facing the pool, on the left is the temple of the second room, and on the right is the study room and tea room ("Tongren Zhai"). The vice-shoin and the shed on the north side of the study are the oldest Zashiki-decorated rooms. They are the origin of the Japanese shoen-style and the Soan tea room. They are regarded as valuable heritage in the history of Japanese architecture. Therefore, Togudo was listed as a national treasure of Japan.

It is said that it was erected as a Buddhist temple of Yoshimasa. With a single-layered cypress roof made of cypress, it has one of the best structures in Jishoji. It is usually closed and designated as a national treasure along with the Ginkaku. I visited during the special release, but the condition is very good and worth seeing. It turned out that I was struggling to maintain my daily routine.

I have visited Jishoji Higashiyudo several times during the special exhibition. However, I haven't seen you recently. Built in 1486, it is a building that doubles as a Buddhist altar and a study, and is said to be a residential-style building with three rooms in addition to the Buddhist altar room. A room in Tohoku is Ashikaga Yoshimasa's study called Dojinsai, which is a four-and-a-half-mat room with a one-story shoin and a half-story difference shelf overhanging the edge. A statue of Amida Nyorai and a sitting statue of Yoshimasa Ashikaga from the Muromachi period are enshrined between the Buddhas. I think it would have been nice to take a picture of the room, but now it's almost prohibited.

It is a relic of the Higashiyamaden era built by Yoshimasa Ashikaga as a Buddhist temple in 1486, but it is said that it has a strong element of residential architecture, and inside it is a small room named "Dojinsai" which is said to have the roots of Shoin-zukuri. There are four rooms. The name of Togu-do was chosen by Keizo Yokokawa, a Zen priest who is an aide to Yoshimasa, from "Platform Sutra," a collection of Zen Buddhism in China. Is said to have been chosen.
It is designated as a national treasure, and the inside is open to the public on a regular basis, but the release in the fall of 2021 has been canceled due to the Corona disaster.
