★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 二の鳥居から本殿までの約200mの表参道にある『日吉神社表参道杉並木』は、東金市の文化財(天然記念物)に指定され、本殿を背にして右側22本、左側17本の計39本もの大杉が立ち並んでいます。中には、御神木として注連縄が結ばれている「夫婦杉」や、やどり木のある杉などがあり、樹高は高いもので約40mもあり、樹の幹周りは4m以上が多く見られ、最大で目通り5.3mのものもあり、樹齢は約400年と推定されています。『東金町誌』(1938年の志賀吾郷編集)によると、元和元(1615)年に徳川家康が東金に来た際、時の代官高室金兵衛に命じて、日吉神社を改修させており、これらの杉は、その折に植樹されたものと推察されています。
The Hiyoshi Shrine Omotesando Suginamiki, which is located about 200m from the Nino Torii gate to the main shrine, is designated as a cultural property (natural monument) of Togane City. There are 39 Osugi lined up. Inside, there are "Meotogi cedar", which has a tied rope as a sacred tree, and cedar with yadori trees. The height of the tree is about 40m, and the circumference of the tree trunk is often 4m or more. Some trees are 5.3m long, and the age of the tree is estimated to be about 400 years. According to Toganemachi magazine (edited by Shiga Gogo in 1938), when Ieyasu Tokugawa came to Togane in 1615, he ordered the time's official, Takamuro Kinbei, to repair the Hiyoshi Shrine. It is speculated that these cedars were planted at that time.
