Owner showed interest in our whereabouts and supplied us with lights for the rental bikes when we mentioned we'd go for a long ride. Additionally we were allowed to leave our big luggage there for 2 nights. Price is very reasonable as well. Without reservation he was able to supply us with a bike during golden week, although any smart person would actually make a reservation.

Would definitely recommend this place over any other in Onomichi if you're looking for proper road bikes. Nice gearing range for spinning up the climbs, brake pads and cables seemed new and the saddles were decent. Definitely not cheap standard saddles but proper aftermarket ones. Great experience and good price as well!

The rental price between the Giant and the public rentals but the quality is probably just as good as the Giant bikes. I would strongly recommend you give this shop a try, and I have recommended Red Bicycles Onomichi to all my friends when I talk about the Shimanami Kaido.
S	Ste Porritt on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Today, I had a wonderful cycle ride from Onomichi to Imabari and back. The ride itself was the highlight, but a big factor as to why it was so enjoyable was the bike I was riding. I rented a Merida aluminium road bike from Red Bicycles Onomichi for 3850 Yen (about 30 Euro), which I thought was quite pricey, but as soon as I started to ride it, I forgot all about the cost. The bike handled very well and the gears were silky smooth. It felt like a new bike. Brakes were responsive and even. Wheels ran true. Full Shimano components. I was also provided with a kit bag that had a lock, spare tube, mini pump and tools. The bike had a bottle cage and a front light. I was given a helmet too, which also felt new. In addition to having well maintained bikes and accessories, the staff member (I think maybe the owner) was very friendly and helpful. He gave me a map and explained the route, but also gave me some local tips to get the most out of my trip. I said I liked cycling hills, so he showed me some nice spots to get great views. Would definitely rent from here again. TLDR: One of the more expensive rental places in Onomichi, but worth it. Very well maintained bikes and great staff. Staff - 5/5: Super friendly and helpful. Couldn't fault him. Bike - 4/5: Very well maintained bike that felt new. The only downside was that it wasn't carbon :D Kit - 5/5: Plenty of accessories to keep you safe, cover a puncture or locking the bike up. Price - 4/5: A fair price, but could always be cheaper.
W	Wendy Palmer on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We are a couple in our early 60s from New Zealand. We cycled the Shimamani Kaido in winter, on 8th Feb. We did not use Red Bicycles but we wish we did because we did visit the shop and could see that it was an excellent outlet. This was because of uncertainty about returning the bikes, not knowing if we would complete the journey, coping with wind and coldness. However, with benefit of experience we can share about the wonderful return bus that leaves Imabari at 4.55pm. It can carry bikes. It stops at several stops, including a bus stop along the last (4km long) bridge. We were the only people on the bus! Red Bicycles has great cross bikes, and the owner offers gel seats. He is an obliging person. In comparison, the public rental system did not offer us their full selection of bikes, and got us going on old city bikes without any personal service. Regardless we had a wonderful time completing the cycle ride.

Awesome road bikes in great condition with locks, helmets, lights wnd repair kit. The owner was super helpful and spoke good english with us. Would recommend! Cheaper and better service than Giant rental ;)
S	Shinji on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ i rented a bike from March 16th to March 17th. The service was cheap, and the bike was 10/10! They even offer SPD pedals if you want them. The clerk was very accomodating and helpful, and even helped me get my bearings straight to cycle the Shimanami Kaido properly. If you choose their road bikes, please request a saddle cover though, as it's very likely that your pelvic shape might not be adequate for the seat, which I learned the hard way (my fault!). In any case, the bikes are very well maintained and are also very easy to use, and they come with everything you need to fix a flat tire or even a broken tube. Make sure to treat the bike properly!
