A small little restaurant offering an authentic vegeterian south Indian taste. Ordered the veg meal and must say it was delicious. I would recommend going with the basmati rice option though. They also offer unlimited chai per glass. Maximum seating available was for 4 pax only. Price is on the expensive side (2100 yen for a veg Thali). If you are craving for some good Indian food, tadka is the place to be

Went there on weekend. Should have been very busy hour as I have to wait for almost 30 minute for my order. The cook here is Japanese but he can cook better than the indian cooks. I really loved the taste of the food. I think menu keeps on changing. The menu was completely different than what I googled before going there. It is a very small place. Staffs are friendly and can speak english well. However the menu was in Japanese so I had to use the google translator. They were selling south dish on that day. South indian food are quiet rare to find in kyoto so i presume i was lucky. I took the set menu for aboyt 1700 yen. Reasonable price as you got around 5 dish and some rice for that price. I would definetly recommend the place. However, i had to wait to a lot. So please dont go there if you expect ur food to be in ur table within 10 to 15 min. I saw a lot of Japanese people at the restuarent so i think it should be quiet a famous place in japan. I was actually more astonished with the fact that a Japanese cook could cook south indian food. You have a good selection of good. Will also recommend it for the vegetarians. Rommended place.

This is the best Indian restaurant in Kyoto, to the best of my knowledge. The owner is a Japanese person who went to India to learn how to cook Indian food and boy he is definitely a good student. The food will blow your mind. Henceforth if someone invites you to go to Raju's or Kerala or some random Indian restaurant then tell them to get admitted to an asylum cause there ain't no place better than Tadka. Did I mention that there is an unlimited chai tea option?

Real South Indian food. Absolutely wonderful dosa, authentic Sambhar, Rasam and coconut chutney. Admire this Japanese Chef who has learnt Indian cooking from Chennai and ably demonstrating it in Kyoto. He likes Karnatak music and happily plays in the restaurant. Fully recommend for all vegetarians who like to have delicious food.

Reasonable price as it is located in Kyoto. First south Indian food restaurant I have seen in japan. Thus only south Indian menu. I was surprised to know that the dosa was cooked by Japanese with such Indian touch and good taste. The staff people were very friendly and polite. I didn’t have cash and they couldn’t take payment by card so I have to go to 7-11 near by to withdraw cash. The person asked me to borrow umbrella from him as it was raining. I was touched by that politeness and their help even when it was their time to close shop. They didn’t behave rudely in that situation. Good service + good taste+ good location ( near to station) . But I didn’t like the serving dishes (Sara) as those seem to be old and other is the smell/ smoke coming while they were cooking.I think they should do something for that. May b they have low budget to renovate it or may be some other reason I don’t know But place is very old and boring. Anyway good visit and I love Japan.

A very authentic south Indian restaurant and I have been there many times for lunch as well as dinner. Now, they have another branch of restaurant TADKA-2 with special only for dinner. TADKA main restaurant gives the feeling of small eatery in India and everything is very delicious. Can get addition curries and rice for some extra charges. For dinner they have every day special curry and appetizer. Every time try something different but delicious. Chai is also super tasty. Must visit place.
