The name Shiraito no Taki seems to be found all over the country, but it is one of the best waterfalls in the Oirase Gorge. In the peneplain covered by pyroclastic flow deposits mainly composed of welded tuff from the Higashi-Hakkoda caldera volcano, there was Lake Towada caldera, which is larger and deeper than the current Lake Towada. The Oirase Gorge is a box-shaped canyon created by piercing the peneplain of pyroclastic flow deposits when a part of the outer ring of the caldera (currently Konoguchi) collapses and a large amount of lake water flows out at once. It was eroded by a large amount of water at once, and both banks became almost vertical cliffs. The rocks rolling around on the sidewalk, the stone plates of Ishigedo, etc. are the rocks that were crushed by the flooding and flowed into the valley and were left behind. Currently, cliff erosion is progressing in the downstream part from Makado Rock and Baifu Rock, but the box-shaped terrain remains in the upstream part, and the swamp that flows into the Oirase Gorge turns the cliff into a waterfall and flows down into the valley. Become. Therefore, there are many waterfalls. Also, because the quality of the pierced rock is almost the same as welded tuff, the waterfall looks similar. (A typical exception is Tamasudare Falls, which runs down a layer of sedimentary rock called the Konoguchi Formation.) And the name of the waterfall named Keigetsu Omachi is also confusing. Kumoi no Taki is the most famous waterfall on the right bank in the most downstream area, but on the left bank, white cloth, white silk, and white thread continue from the downstream area. The white silk waterfall has a remarkable retreat and cannot be seen from the promenade in the summer because it is blocked by trees. White cloth and white thread are clearly visible from the promenade. Even so, the images uploaded by others are overwhelmingly those of other waterfalls.
