★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 尾根筋の旧道を行くと、脇道にひっそりと佇んでいる。新青梅街道、旧青梅街道に挟まれたこの辺りは、狭山丘陵の尾根筋に延びる「谷戸」と呼ばれる、高台と谷が入り組んだ地形である。神明社は、奈良橋川と空堀川とそれらを形作る湧き水が削った、神明ヶ谷戸の鎮守としてまつられている。参道の石段を登り、風抜ける高台の境内から南を眺めると、民家に軒の向こうに武蔵野の平地が広がる様子が垣間見え、かつての高台からの景色を思い描くことができる。そしてこの谷戸がかつて恵深い場所であったことは、神社の山下の空堀川の護岸にも見ることができる。現在はコンクリートブロックと鉄板で固められているが、その隙間からは谷戸を源として湧く清水が、現在も滾々と空堀川に流れ込んでいる。

The Shinmei company is enshrined as a guardian of the Kamimeigayato, where the Narahashi River and the Skybori River and the spring water that forms them have shaved. Climb the stone steps of the approach and look at the south from the precipitous grounds, you can see a glimpse of the spread of Musashino plains behind the eaves in a private house, and you can imagine the view from a former hill. And it can also be seen in the revetment of the skybori river below the shrine, that this valley was once a sublime place. Currently, it is consolidated with concrete blocks and steel plates, but from that gap Shimizu, which originates from Tanito, is still flowing into the Kubori River.
