Nice ski area, ideal for families, with fun slopes for all levels. It is well connected with other areas in central Shiga Kogen, including the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics Giant slope. Quite close to the Monkey park, actually it is not unusual to find monkeys in the parking lot, searching for leftovers.

Great resort when it comes to snow conditions and snowfall. Though early in the season, there was plenty of fresh powder. As with most other resorts in Japan, facilities are far too small and finding a spot for lunch takes a long time. Another complaint is the sheer size of the resort. If you wish to visit another slope, there are buses roughly every 2 hours, incredibly inconvenient if you have any problems or forget something. As with the facilities, the buses are often at full capacity forcing you to either wait hours for the next, or force yourself inside for an unpleasant, cramped 30 minute journey. I'd rather go to a smaller, cosier resort next time.

IT'S JAPAN'S BIGGEST SKI AREA!! Do I need to say more. Ok, I will. I saw snow monkeys from the chairlift; and one was chilling in the parking lot (picture attached). This place is so huge, you will drive along (and occasionally under) the slopes for nearly a half an hour from end to end. Bombing the runs at full speed, it will take you almost your entire day to make it from one end to the other and back to your car. There is some unusual terrain to be found here: runs built on man-made wooden corkscrewing catwalks, ski runs through tunnels (with stoplights), chairlifts over a road, awesome slackcountry (cutting the corners on cattracks), not to mention Nagano's epic powder. Oh yeah, there's an Olympic run as well. You can come here for powder or groomers, however it''s not a backcountry place. It's size meant that on the last day of my season, in April, on the last run to the car, I was hitting untouched knee deep powder as the gondola closed. Now that's saying something!

Shiga has a great year every year if you are looking to snowboard or ski. Lots of snow and lots of options. There is no lack of lifts and run in the valley. If you can’t find what you are looking for here, maybe you need to stop. Great for family, groups, couples and even puppies.

Amazing mountains. Ski resort all over the place. Superbs roads ideal for cycling when it is too hot in the lower land. The view is spectacular. Great variety of flowers and birds. Plenty of onsen in the area makes it an ideal base for winter or summer. Highly recommended!

I had my first snow experience in this place with the kids (Ocean and Sky) . I am still hoping I can be here again someday. I had so much fun espicially riding the sky cable car going to the Olympic Area.

The slopes are not too steep yet fun. The lifts are well arranged and can bring you to different sides of the mountains. Enjoyed my experience here!

The ski domain is quite big, but many ski slopes are pretty narrow, and a lot of flat ones, not ideal for snowboard. I recommend skiing there, not snowboarding.
