人の体の中に住み着いている三尸（さんし）という虫が60日に１回体を出て天帝に主の行いをチクリに行くので、自分の悪行を密告されないよう徹夜する風習があり、これを三年間続けた記念が庚申塔です。
なんというか、悪行を控えようというのではなく、密告されないように見張ってようという発想が凄いですね。しかも密告されないよう頑張った記念に塔を建てるなんて。
この庚申塔、沖縄を除く日本全国各地に残っているそうです。見ざる、言わざる、聞かざるの三猿も、この信仰に関係してるようです。

It seems that this Koshin Tower remains all over Japan except Okinawa. The three monkeys, seeing, saying, and hearing, seem to be involved in this religion.
