 An arcade-type shopping street with a total length of 800 meters, which is the largest in Kyoto and the largest in western Japan. It is a community-based and moderately lively shopping district that is different from tourist destinations such as Nishiki Market.
Ramen, sweets, izakaya, set meals, cafes, bakeries, butchers, fish shops, greengrocers, drug stores, florists, supermarkets, beauty salons, osteopathic clinics, parks, etc. are all available in this shopping district. Moreover, it is wonderful that there are many highly rated shops.

Not what I'd call particularly charming, but there are some great bakeries (Panscape for good quality, Brother and DenDen for variety and better prices), restaurants, fruit and vegetable shops, an expensive but high quality chocolatier, a great but also expensive meat shop and other shops.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's more like a residential market rather than a travel spot. The foods are cheaper but the taste still fantastic. There are supermarket, bar (izakaya), teppanyaki, okonomiyaki, udon, etc. The shops close fairly early except for the supermarket.

Here you can feel the atmosphere of old Kyoto without facing tourist crowds and you can buy authentic Japanese goods, healthy veggies, pickles, crafted items of all kinds and much more! Experience true Kyoto hospitality and kindness! Many shops have been owned by a family for many generations and therefore, shop owners are very knowledgeable, passionate and welcoming. Great place to buy some souvenirs that are beautiful and not overpriced. You can even see a beautiful small shrine inside the mall and festivals and special events are held regularly. Take a tour off the beaten tracks to meet locals and experience Kyoto in a new, wonderful way!
