This is a keyhole-shaped tumulus that was built in the latter half of the 4th century and belongs to the Mami Kofun group. There is a mound in a forest that looks like bushes.

「佐味田宝塚古墳は昔から黄金山と呼ばれてきました。毎年元日、この黄金山にどこからともなく金の鳥が飛んできて、美しい声でさえずるのですが、不思議なことに金の鳥がさえずった後は、この辺りだけはいくら雪が降っても積もらなかったといいます。この伝説をたよりに地元の人々が発掘したところ、たくさんの貴重な遺物が発見されました」

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 4世紀末〜5世紀初頭に築造されたと見られる墳丘長111.5メートルの二段築成と思われる前方後円墳。銅鏡、銅製品、三角緑神獣鏡の破片などか発見されたとの事です。古墳周りを散策できますが、墳形がわかりにくいです。一部墳丘裾の木が倒れ、墳丘も崩れている部分がありました。古墳までのルートもわかりにくいです。私は、牧野古墳散策後、東側のルートから古墳に向かいましたが、広い道ではなかったです。案内板は古墳の東側、急カーブの辺りにあります。説明は詳しく、親切な案内板でした。佐味田宝塚古墳の近辺に二つの古墳があるみたいですが、よくわからなかったです。

It seems that there are two burial mounds near the Samita Takarazuka burial mound, but I wasn't sure.
