★ ★ ★ ★ ★ この保土塚古墳は、小牛田公園（通称：素山公園）内にあり、現状は直径が約50mの円墳状となってますが、これは後世に前方部が欠損したものであり、本来は前方後円墳であったと考えられています。
古墳の大きさは長さ66m、高さ4mの宮城県内において代表的な古墳時代中期のものと思われ、前方後円墳としては、我が国で最北限のものといわれています。
小牛田公園は近隣にある蜂谷森公園（蜂谷森館跡）、山前公園（山前遺跡）を結ぶ遊歩道も整備されています。
またこの地域の桜の名所となっており、毎年４月中旬は桜祭りの会場となっています。
 The Hodozuka Tumulus is located in Koushida Park (commonly known as Soyama Park) and is currently in the shape of a circular mound with a diameter of about 50m. It is believed to have been a keyhole-shaped tumulus.
The tumulus is 66m in length and 4m in height, and is considered to be a typical mid-Tumulus era in Miyagi prefecture.
Koushida Park is also equipped with a promenade that links the nearby Hachiya Mori Park (the ruins of Hachiya Morikan) and the Yamamae Park (the ruins of Yamamae).
It is also a famous spot for cherry blossoms in this area, and it is the venue for the cherry blossom festival in mid-April every year.
