★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 駅前が発展してるように見えて寂しい。遠目で見ると沢山あるように見えるが実は…駅自体が使いやすい上に特急サザン・特急ラピートが止まるのにそれが残念でならない。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 駅自体は近代的ですが、府内では大阪市に次ぐ「第二の都市」にしてもう一つの「政令指定都市」古墳と千利休とアルフォンス・ミュシャ、自転車のシマノにお香・お線香の梅栄堂、料理人の包丁などなどで有名な「堺」にほかにある２つの駅「堺市駅」「堺東駅」（阪堺電車除く）とは結構な距離があるので注意です（徒歩では無理な感じ）
また駅周辺も前述の２つの駅周辺と比べると商店街などもなく静かですが、一方で駅直結のホテル「アゴーラ リージェンシー大阪堺（元リーガロイヤルホテル堺）や商業施設「PLATPLAT（プラットプラット）」スーパー「ライフ堺駅前店」それに「ザビエル公園」があって、住環境的な不便さはまったく感じません。むしろもっとも海側なので船の汽笛がほどよく聞こえて風情ある感じかと。（元住民としての実感です）
・・あと「深夜0時から開く天ぷら」で有名な大吉が駅近くの堺魚市場にあります。宿泊される方などは一度覗いてみてはいかがでしょうか？

The area around the station is quieter than the two stations mentioned above, with no shopping streets, but on the other hand, the hotel "Agora Regency Osaka Sakai (formerly RIHGA Royal Hotel Sakai)" and the commercial facility "PLATPLAT" are directly connected to the station. There is a supermarket "Life Sakai Ekimae Store" and "Xavier Park", so I don't feel any inconvenience in terms of living environment. Rather, it's on the sea side, so the whistle of the ship can be heard reasonably well, and it feels like it's tasteful. (It's a real feeling as a former resident)
