吉野にて桜見せふそ桧の木笠
という芭蕉の句を踏まえたものだが、背景はよく分からないとのこと。碑（塚）は明和９年（１７７２）９月建立とかなり古い。

Although it is based on the phrase of 芭蕉, the background is not well understood. The monument (mound) is quite old, built in September 1772.
