★ ★ ★ ★ ★ JR山崎駅から、天王山登山道方面へ歩き、踏切を越えて登山道に入らずに右折、そのままJRの線路沿いに5分度ほど歩くと、道路の脇にこの山崎院跡の石碑が立っています。
山崎院とは、奈良時代に東大寺の建立に尽力した高僧・行基が建てた寺院で、８世紀前半、行基が社会奉仕のために淀川に掛けた「山崎橋」の維持管理と、仏教の教えを広めるために、山崎の古寺を改修し道場としたとされています。
1989年にこの地から円盤系の銅地銀が出土し、不明だった山崎院の位置に進展がみられ、1999年の再調査で、彩色された壁画片約１００点が出土、その中の12点に唐草文様を描いたとみられる壁画片が見つかりました。壁画片は山崎院の堂内がどのようなものであったのかを推定する貴重な資料となりました。
石標は、2006年に、全京都建設協同組合が創立５０周年記念事業の一環として立てられ、行基年譜の表記に合わせて「山埼院跡」と彫られ山崎院の跡を示して

Yamazaki-in is a temple built by Gyoki, a high priest who was instrumental in the construction of Todaiji Temple during the Nara period. It is said that the old temple in Yamazaki was renovated and used as a dojo in order to spread the word.
In 1989, a disk-based copper regional bank was excavated from this area, and progress was seen in the unknown location of Yamazaki-in. In a re-survey in 1999, about 100 colored mural pieces were excavated, 12 of which were excavated. A mural piece that seems to have drawn an arabesque pattern on the dots was found. The mural piece was a valuable resource for estimating what the interior of Yamazaki-in was like.
The stone marker was erected in 2006 by the Zenkyotokensetsu Cooperative as part of the 50th anniversary commemorative project, and is engraved with "Yamazakiin Ruins" according to the notation of the Gyoki chronology, showing the remains of Yamazakiin.
