I really regret going because the owls are all chained and were living in such a small space. They couldn't really fly. There were owls that flew away when the chain was taken off to put them on guests because they looked like they hated having to be instructed and they wanted freedom. Some owls appeared cranky and flapped their wings when people touched them or tried to put them on the people. My friend also said it was depressing. I went because in other pictures I saw cats being free and live in such a big spacious space where they can jump around. I thought the owl cafe would do the same. I feel sorry for having done this, and would never commit the same mistake again.

I went midday on a weekday and had the whole place to myself. The girl working there was very nice and helpful while working with the owls. She took pictures for me and showed me all the owls one by one. As seen in the photo the owls did not fly away when they were on me so I think they are pretty happy. I would definitely recommend trying this out.

Despite the name, this is NOT a cafe. They do not have tables or chairs, they do not sell drinks or food. It is only accessible via 4 flights of stairs, and their signs telling you its not a cafe and has no seats or tables or food are only on display when you get to the top. The man who answered the door was abrupt and unfriendly. It is strictly only a place to view and touch Owls and the price is extreme at 2200 Yen each for adults and children. In that regard, the Owl Village Cafe Harajuku is far better as it has at least drinks, and gifts included in the price, it is only 1500 Yen for adults and children, you can handle the owls and have 60 minutes of uninterrupted time with the owls, and unlimited time in the cafe. It also has an elevator, tables and chairs.

The Owner is great at explaining the breeds, fun facts shows them off teaches you how to pet them and love them and they love you back. They're happy animals it was an amazing experience. So good we're seriously thinking to buy an owl as a pet. The owner can help you with that too! Don't miss this if you're in town!

Instant regret... we had a suspicion about the conditions and had read that animal cruelty laws are amongst the loosest in the world in this country. Deeply saddening to see such wonderful creatures tied up and looking so sad.

The woman working here speaks English. My boyfriend is Japanese so he conversed with her in Japanese. All her owls are rescues from breeders. None of them are from the wild, nor would they survive in the wild. The woman who runs this is very very fond of her owls, and is highly educated about the owls. She has 10 years experience. If your put off by the ropes, don't be. They are there for the owls safety. If the cafe gets crowded she locks the smaller ones down so no one accidentally kicks them. Or when she needs to step out to relive herself she locks them down so they don't eat anything that can harm them. If your like me and only like to support rescue type exotic cafes, come here. These owls are deeply loved and very well taken care of. You can tell by their body language. This place was a wonderful experience and I HIGHLY recommend it.
