★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 阿武隈川でただひとつの滝、と聞いて行って来ました。
静かな場所に水の音。
緑もいっぱいで散策するのにいいところです。
松尾芭蕉もここを訪ねています。
句碑と像が建っています。
 I heard that it is the only waterfall in the Abukuma River.
The sound of water in a quiet place.
It is a good place to take a walk with lots of greenery.
Basho Matsuo is also visiting here.
A monument and a statue are erected.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 玉川村と須賀川市の間にあり漢字の「乙」の字に似た形の滝！
昔からのパワースポットですね。
あの松尾芭蕉も訪れて句を詠んだことで有名。(句碑もあります)
周辺はサイクリングロードにもなっています。
最近は玉川村側でランタンのイベントなどもやっています。
(その昔、須賀川市側にはゴジラのたまごとゴジラの足跡がありましたが今はありません)
どうやら玉川村で周辺を更に整備する計画があるようなので、今後もっと楽しめるスポットになりそうですね！

Apparently there are plans to further improve the surrounding area in Tamakawa Village, so it looks like it will be a more enjoyable spot in the future!

現在2022年1月10日までの期間限定で、PM5時から9時まで恒例のライトアップイベント、光の乙字ヶ滝が開催中です。
真冬の寒さにも関わらず皆さん見学にいらっしゃっていました。
寒さ対策に厚着、マフラー、イヤーマフラー、手袋など装備してどうぞ。いやほんと、寒いですから。
イベントそのものは以前と同じもので滝とランタンがライトアップされていて華やかです。
…そうです皆さんご覧下さい、滝自体もライトアップ、されてますよ〜…。ランタンだけでなく滝も、ついででいいので見て行って〜?

118号線から看板を目安に入り、すぐ見える赤い橋の南側が駐車場の入り口です。台風で公園や社が甚大な被害を受けましたが復興しています。
滝をメインにした公園のようになっています。
トレッキング的装備は全く不要で、雨が降った後でも安心して見に来ることが出来ます。
滝を下流に歩いていくと川辺に降りることができ、滝全体を見ることが出来ます。
ただ階段は途中までで、滝を視界に納めるのは岩場を降りていく必要があります。
こちらは雨の日こそ大変危険なので十分注意してください。
水量的な迫力こそ劣るものの、個人的には水が澄んでいる冬場の方が好きです。
さすがに阿武隈川なので凍結は部分的ですが、極寒時には飛沫が凍った美しい姿も見ることができます。
水量が多いのは梅雨時などですが、5月位の農繁期には取水によって極端に水量が落ちる時期があるので注意です。

Take the signboard from Route 118, and the entrance to the parking lot is on the south side of the red bridge that you can see immediately. The park and company were severely damaged by the typhoon, but they are recovering.

If you walk downstream of the waterfall, you can go down to the riverside and see the entire waterfall.
However, the stairs are halfway, and you need to go down the rocks to see the waterfall.

Although the amount of water is inferior, I personally prefer the winter when the water is clear.
As it is the Abukuma River, the freezing is partial, but you can also see the beautiful frozen droplets in the cold weather.
The amount of water is large during the rainy season, but be aware that there are times when the amount of water drops extremely due to water intake during the farming season around May.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 名前の由来は水が乙字の形をして流れ落ちることに因んでいる。また、乙字ケ滝周辺では阿武隈川が「Z」もしくは「乙」の字に大きく屈曲して流れている。滝幅の広さから「小ナイアガラ」とも呼ばれている。
落差6m、幅100m。滝の近くには、松尾芭蕉がこの滝を訪れたときに詠んだと言われる「五月雨の滝降りうづむ水かさ哉」の句碑がある。
滝不動尊や聖徳太子石像などがあり、公園として整備されている。
江戸時代には、白河藩により、滝の下で村民が鱒や鮭、鮎などを捕ってよいとされたが、初漁の魚は殿様に献上することになっており、初漁近くなると藩士が近くに詰めた。その滞在費を持つ代わり、他の賦役は免除されていた。
乙字ケ滝（おつじがたき）は、福島県須賀川市と石川郡玉川村の間を流れる阿武隈川にかかる滝。日本の滝百選の一つにも選ばれている。
