(February 28, 2022, revised post) Oshikiri station is a small unmanned station just south of my local Mitsuke station. Surrounded by rice fields and a small residential area, it has a really laid-back atmosphere. It is also a scenic place where you can see Mt. Yahiko on the west side and Mt. Sumon and Mt. Awagatake on the east side. In 2000, the platform of Line 2 was abolished and the tracks and overhead lines were removed, making it a double-track bar station. This is because the need for train exchange has disappeared due to the decrease in the number of Shin-Etsu Line passengers and train operators due to the declining birthrate and aging population. Oshikiri Station only stops regular trains, and limited express and rapid trains do not. Like Kamaboko in 1995 (the roof has an unnecessary structure due to the snowfall in winter. By rounding the roof itself, it will naturally fall to the ground when the amount of snow exceeds the permissible amount). It was rebuilt into a new station building, but the old station building was like an old shrine. Until April 1993, the station staff of JR East Niigata Branch was stationed, but until April 2007, it was a simple consignment station. Since then, it has become a completely unmanned station and continues to this day. In 2019, the parking lot was widened due to the construction of the west exit rotary (only the west exit can enter and exit the station, and it is not possible to enter and exit from the east exit like Mitsuke station), which has improved convenience. In 2016, the unisex toilet changed from Japanese style to Western style, but please note that there is no toilet paper installed like Kita-Nagaoka Station (to prevent theft). It is the one and only railway station in the former Nakanoshima-cho district of Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. The roaring sound of the Kariyata River Bridge on the north side when the train passes (especially in winter when there is a lot of water in the air) may be a specialty of Oshikiri Station.

It is an unmanned station in Nagaoka City and is close to Mitsuke City. You can use national transportation IC cards such as Suica. Suica cannot be charged or purchased because there is no ticket vending machine installed. If you do not have Suica etc., you need to issue a boarding station certificate in the waiting room of the station and purchase a ticket from the driver at the end of the train. (You can also pay at the checkout machine at the arrival station or at the checkout counter.)
