ここから南南東に徒歩1～2分の所に「首塚」あり。
The historic site of the Kamiryugawa Battle. On private land. The walking path is between the beauty salon and the liquor store. There is no parking lot. But well, what is a “torso” mound? Tell the cruelty of the battle.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 通りすがりに首塚八幡宮を見つけ、近くにあるという胴塚稲荷にも立ち寄ってみました。どちらも生々しい名前ですが、合戦で亡くなった人々を丁寧に葬った当時の村人達の、純朴な温かさも感じます。
天正10年(1582年)織田信長旗下の武将であった滝川一益は、本能寺の変を聞いて上州へ押し出した北条氏直と神流川の河原で激突。壊滅的な大敗を喫して、数千とも言われる犠牲者を出しました。
勝利した側は獲得した首を戦果として改めました。その場所が首塚八幡宮として、現在も残っています。
この場所は、もともと古墳であったので、村人達が首の無い死骸を葬ったのが、この胴塚なのだそうです。
何だか空気も冷え冷えとしているような…(^_^;)
