★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 県内でも有名な紅葉スポット。その年の寒暖差によってバラつきはありますが、だいたい10月下旬～11月上旬が紅葉の見頃です。
荒川河川沿いに横根トンネルを迂回する形で1km程度の遊歩道が設置されており、美しい景観を眺めながらのんびりとウォーキングを楽しめます。
最も有名な眺望スポットは遊歩道から離れた国道113号線(東側)の橋梁上にありますが、交通量の多い道路の路側帯から眺める事になるので十分注意が必要です。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ JR米坂(よねさか)線、小国(おぐに)駅から車で7～8分のところに赤芝峡があります。この場所は山と渓谷が一緒に撮れるのが有名で、全国から写真愛好家や家族連れが訪れます。国道113号線から脇に入ると駐車場があり、以前はドライブインがありましたが、今は取り壊され駐車場のみとなっています。車から降りて橋のところから写真を撮っています。実はこの場所、国道113号線の橋の上から撮れるのですが車の往来が多く、大変危険なため、写真を撮ったらその場から離れ駐車場へ戻るようにして下さい。2018年11月初旬の朝10時、ここを訪れましたが休みの日と重なり車の交通量が普段よりものすごく多かったです。平日でも車の往来がかなりあり、１ヶ月遅れで投稿したのはそのためもあるのですが、私自身、まだスマホに慣れていない事もあるので投稿するのが今に至っています。
ちなみに、あづま総合軟式野球場近くの橋の上から撮った山&渓谷、全然載らなかっただけでなく、良く見たら川のようなので赤芝峡を投稿しました。
四季を通して写真を撮れますがやはり秋がイチ押しです。駐車場は確かトイレがなかったと思います。飲食店は道の駅"白い森 おぐに"にありますが赤芝峡の周りは全然有りません。あと小国駅からはバスが出ていなかった記憶があります。

I visited here at 10 am in early November 2018, but the traffic was much heavier than usual due to the holidays. By the way, I posted the Akashiba Gorge because the mountains and valleys taken from the bridge near the Azuma Gymnasium were not listed at all, and if you look closely, they look like rivers.
You can take pictures throughout the four seasons, but autumn is the best time to go. I think the parking lot didn't have a toilet. There is a restaurant at the roadside station "Shiromori Oguni", but there is no restaurant around Akashiba Gorge. I also remember that there was no bus from Oguni Station.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 横根トンネルを挟んで西側と東側に駐車場と遊歩道の入口がありましたが、両方とも国道からの案内板が無いので通り過ぎないように。個人的には東側から入るのがお奨め。西側はいきなり戦前の雪崩による列車事故の犠牲者16名の鎮魂碑があって、ちょっと辛いです。
遊歩道からは低木や草で渓谷が見える場所が思いの外少く、３～４㍍の広い遊歩道ながら渓谷側は柵などのない急斜面になっている箇所が結構あり、渓谷を見下ろそうとして滑落したら怪我では済まなそうな場所もありますので、子供さんには十分注意した方がいいです。
紅葉の盛りは10月下旬でしょうか。
石灰岩の白亜の岩肌と翠の流れと紅葉のコラボは絶景なのでしょうね。

紅葉は綺麗かもしれませんが散策道のから川に向かって木やら薮が伸びてて対岸の景色はあんまり見れないかなーって感じでした。

第1駐車場と第2駐車場の間の絶景スポット。
熊が出てきそうでヒヤヒヤでしたが、他にも来られている方々がいらっしゃって安心しました。
景色は最高ですよ。
その他は何も無い場所でしたね。
一見の価値有りだと思います。

遊歩道は舗装されているため歩きやすいですが、落ち葉や枯れ木が散乱していました。ハイシーズン前には整備・清掃されているとは思いますが。
また、遊歩道から川岸まで降りれる場所が一応ありますが、草木が生い茂っており超大変。
※第1の方が第2の駐車場よりも広いです
