★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 地元の人によれば、ここは昔は周囲を沼地に囲まれた要害だったらしく、戦国時代前半に鹿島地区にいた沼尾氏の出城があり、その氏神として祭られていたらしい。また、戦後進駐軍の命令で神社の石碑から村社の文字が埋められたものの、日本占領が終了すると村人が石屋に頼んで村社の文字を復活させたとのこと。
