平安時代の後期現在の大町周辺には2つの荘園があり、この荘園を支配していたのが仁科氏でした。仁科氏は、古くは高瀬川段丘上の社館之内に居館を構えていましたが、室町時代の初め頃には、現在の大町市街へ移住しました。二重の塀に囲まれた屋敷の跡は今も残り、天正寺になっています。一方で、戦乱などに備えて木崎湖畔に突き出た半島状の地形を利用し、三方を湖と沼地で囲まれた「水城」を築きました。これが森城です。城の大部分は現在では集落になっていますが、本丸跡には仁科氏や明治以降の戦没者を祭る仁科神社が営まれています。境内には承久の変で鎌倉幕府軍と戦った仁科盛遠の顕彰碑や古い塚などが残っています。
Morijo Ruins (Nishina Shrine)
There are two villas around Omachi in the latter half of the Heian period, and it was Mr. Nishina who dominated these villas. Mr. Nishina used to have a residence in the shrine building Nouchi on the Takasegawa terrace, but at the beginning of the Muromachi period, he moved to the present city of Omachi. The remains of the mansion surrounded by double walls still remain, and it is now Tenshoji Temple. On the other hand, in preparation for the war, we used the peninsula-like terrain protruding from the shore of Lake Kizaki to build a "Mizujo" surrounded by lakes and swamps on three sides. This is Mori Castle. Most of the castle is now a settlement, but the site of Honmaru is home to Nishina Shrine, which is dedicated to Mr. Nishina and the war dead after the Meiji era. In the precincts, there are the memorial monument of Nishina Seien who fought against the Kamakura Shogunate army and the old mound.
