西宮砲台跡 - Nishinomiya

There is a stone monument marked "Historic site Nishinomiya gun table" on the left of Nishinagi Park.

At the end of the Edo period, the Edo Shogunate, who was worried about national defense, adopted the proposal of Katsu Kaishu during the time of Shogun Tokugawa Iemori, and in 1863 Bunkyu (1863), the Wada Misaki turret and Maiko turret for the defense of Osaka Bay. The construction of the battery was started with the Imazu battery. In foundation work (ground pile driving), 1,541 pine piles were driven [Note 1]. The granite (granite) necessary for construction was mainly cut out from the islands in Binchu-Oda-gun (now Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture) and transported by sea. A large number of skilled workers were gathered to proceed with the construction through rush work, and it was completed in 1866 (Keio 2). After completion, I tried shooting an empty gun but the smoke was filled inside, eventually it was not useful for practical use and the Meiji era was reached without being used even once

It seems that it couldn't be used in reality, but the plaster finish is so beautiful that it's hard to believe that it was made by the Shogunate.

The other day, I remember when I was passing by Nishinomiya City ?, there was a Nishinomiya turret mark ? ? ? ?, so I dropped in at Gozenhama Park ?️ ? ?. It is the former Nishinomiya gun battery site ? ? ? ? on the beach of Gozenhama Park ?️ ?? in the end of the Edo period in preparation for a black ship attack ?⚓️??Katsukashiro It was built ?? under the guidance of Tatsuro Katsurin. The 12-meter high turret made of stone remains unused after the completion of the Meiji Restoration ⚔️. In March 1863 (Bunkyu 3), by the proposal of Katsu Kaishu, the location of the battery on the defense of the sea was set at Minatogawa, Cape Wada, Nishinomiya, Imazu. With the witness, the construction of both Nishinomiya and Imazu batteries was proceeding in parallel. The construction was started on August 3, 1945 (September 15, 1863), and the work was contracted by Jiro Kano, a shogunate dispatcher purveyor. It seems that the stone materials are shipped from Shiraishijima, Kitakijima, Manabejima (now Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture). It is a stone fortress with a height of about 12 m, an inner diameter of about 17 m, and a wall thickness of 1.21 m. The exterior wall is stucco and the interior is a solid structure with 3 layers. It is said that the Meiji Restoration ⚔️ was welcomed without being used even once because the gun smoke ? stood in the battery when a blank gun was shot with equipment equipped with the cylinder mouth facing in all directions. ?? ■ Nishinomiya Gundai Ruins Remains of the late Edo period in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. Located on the east side of Omaehama Park. A circular tubular structure built on the beach on the sea side of the embankment. The diameter is about 17m and the height is about 12m. On the land side of the embankment, there are pillars and wall nameplates. In recent years, the turret has been surrounded by wire mesh. ● I saw it before. This time, I got a deeper impression that it was big. Is it a luck or a miracle that the coastal buildings over 150 years old are still in their original form?

It is one of the batteries built under the command of Katsu Kaishu for the defense of Osaka Bay at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate. The only existing batteries are the Nishinomiya Battery and the Wadamisaki Battery on the premises of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. At first glance, it looks like a concrete building, but the stone exterior walls are plastered. The interior was burned down by a fire in the Meiji era, and only the stone outer wall remains from that time. To the west of this turret is a slightly elevated area, a pine forest, which is part of the earthworks surrounding the turret.

It seems that it was made in preparation for the war in the Meiji era, but according to the historical writing, it seems that it was a big construction because it is said to make such a thing on the sandy beach. In the end, it seems that it ended without being used even once. I used to put it inside about 50 years ago, but now it's clean and surrounded by a fence. There are some playsets around, and there is a beautiful view of Omaehama Park (Koroenhama), so it is a place where you can go out with your family.
