後陽成天皇の第九皇子で、五摂家の一條家に入った一條昭良（恵観）が、寛永年間後期（１６４０年頃）に当地に営んだ別業『一條恵観山荘』の遺趾と伝わる。往時の山荘は現在の西賀茂中川上町及び西賀茂北川上町を全て含んだ範囲に相当すると言われており、もし現存すれば桂離宮や修学院離宮クラスの広壮な別業であったと想像される。恵観山荘は一條昭良の没後、次男で醍醐家の祖となる醍醐冬基に伝わり、以後醍醐家に伝領されてきたが、近代に到って衰退の一途を辿り、山荘の建物も遠く神奈川県鎌倉市に移築された茶室を除いて全て失われてしまった。今では僅かな広さの一画のみとなった樹叢からは、寛永年間に花開いた王朝懐古趣味に彩られた典雅な様子を偲ぶべくもないが、付近には南側の川上大神宮の社叢にも僅かに古木が残されている。また宅地化の波に呑まれて久しいものの、所々に畠も散在しており、洛北西賀茂の地にも、かの洛西桂の”瓜畑のかろき茶屋”（＝桂離宮）さながらの風景が展開されていたことが何とか想像できるのではと思われる。因みに現地には案内板や立札の類は設置されていません。

All but the tea room that was relocated to Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, has been lost. From the tree stalk, which is now only a small area, it is not possible to remember the elegant appearance of the dynasty nostalgic taste that blossomed during the Kanei era, but the shrine sect of Kawakami Daijingu on the south side is nearby. There are also a few old trees left behind. In addition, although it has been swallowed by the wave of residential land, there are scattered ridges in some places, and even in the land of Rakuhoku Kamo, the scenery of Rakusai Katsura's "Urabata no Karoki Teahouse" (= Katsura Imperial Villa) It seems that we can somehow imagine that was being developed.
