今川橋が神田堀(別名神田八丁堀・百間川)に架設されたのは天和年間(1681〜83)との記録があります。橋名の由来は、当時の今川氏の尽力により架けられたのでその名が残りました。この橋は日本橋から中山道に通ずる重要な橋でもありました。神田堀は現在の千代田区神田・中央区日本橋地域の境を流れ、その役割は非常に大きく当時の運輸手段の主流でもありました。昭和二十五年(1950) 龍閑川は埋立てられ、300年近く馴れ親しんだ今川橋も撤去され、現在はその面影もありません。左図の絵図は江戸時代末期頃の界隈風景です。この橋辺には陶磁器をあきなう商家が立ち並び、大層賑わったといいます。

There is a record that Imagawabashi was erected in Kandabori (also known as Kanda Hatchobori / Hyakukengawa) during the Tenna period (1681-83). The origin of the bridge name remains because it was built by the efforts of Mr. Imagawa at that time. This bridge was also an important bridge leading from Nihonbashi to Nakayama Road. Kandabori flows along the border between the current Kanda-ku, Chiyoda-ku and Nihonbashi-ku, Chuo-ku, and its role was very large and was also the mainstream of transportation at that time. In 1950, the Ryukan River was reclaimed, and the Imagawa Bridge, which had been familiar to us for nearly 300 years, was removed, and there is no sign of it now. The picture on the left is a landscape of the neighborhood around the end of the Edo period. It is said that the bridge was lined with pottery-filled merchant houses and was very crowded.

神田駅から中央通りを日本橋方面に向かい最初の交差点が今川橋。橋はない。江戸時代にここを東西にお堀が作られそこに架けられた橋が今川橋であった。戦後お堀は埋め立てられ、今川橋も撤去された。この碑には今川橋の由来について書かれている。ここ碑のすぐ前のビルの横にも今川橋跡の碑がある。ここには書かれていないが、今川焼の由来は当時今川橋のたもとで売られていたからだという。今川焼発祥の地でもある。

Although it is not written here, it is said that the origin of Imagawayaki was that it was sold at the foot of Imagawayaki at that time. It is also the birthplace of Imagawa-yaki.
