★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 金毘羅街道の高灯籠の近くにある横瀬に集落の氏神的な存在です。参道の南側に湧水が今も湧き出しています。この湧水からは３方用水路が伸びています。早くから湧水の周辺に人々が定住し、その下手に水田を開いていったことが推測できます。金毘羅街道がこの神社周辺で大きく曲がるのも、ここが高台にあって、西側や北側がかつての金倉川の氾濫原となっていたためのようです。明治の地図には、横瀬の街道周辺は市街化していますが、その下側は水田で、家屋はありません。洪水時には遊水池となっていたことがうかがえます。
そんな横瀬の水神様として、湧水のそばに祀られた神なのでしょう。
 It is a deity of the village in Yokoze near the high lanterns on the Kinbira Highway. Spring water is still springing up on the south side of the approach. A three-way irrigation canal extends from this spring. It can be inferred that people settled around the spring from early on and opened paddy fields poorly. It seems that the reason why the Kanakura Highway makes a big turn around this shrine is that it is on a hill and the west and north sides were once floodplains of the Kanakura River. On the map of the Meiji era, the area around the Yokoze highway is urbanized, but the lower side is paddy fields and there are no houses. It can be seen that it was a retarding basin at the time of the flood.
As the water god of Yokoze, it must be a god enshrined near the spring.
