★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ここは江戸時代にあった下総佐倉牧のなかの内野牧の野馬土手で、高さ4mは余裕でありそうな大土手です。
富里市街から国道296号線を酒々井ICに向かっていて、県道77号線に入る交差点の信号待ちで車を停めた時に見つけた野馬土手です。
徳川幕府は軍用馬の確保を主な目的に、下総牧と呼ばれる牧場を持っていました。大きくは東の佐倉牧と西の小金牧にわかれ、各牧で野馬と呼ばれる半野性の馬を放牧していました。明治時代になると幕府は滅び、牧場も廃止されて新田開発が始まりました。野馬土手はそれらの牧の遺構になります。
これほど高さのある野馬土手は、これまで観たことがありませんでした。感激しました。
 This is the Noma bank of Infield Maki in Shimosa Sakura Maki in the Edo period, and the height of 4m is a large bank that seems to be affordable.
It is a Noma bank that I found when I was heading for Shisui IC on National Route 296 from Tomisato City and stopped at the traffic light at the intersection on Prefectural Road 77.
The Tokugawa Shogunate had a ranch called Shimosomaki for the main purpose of securing military horses. It was roughly divided into Sakuramaki in the east and Koganemaki in the west, and each pasture grazing semi-wild horses called wild horses. In the Meiji era, the shogunate was destroyed, the ranch was abolished, and Nitta development began. The Noma bank will be the remains of those pastures.
I've never seen a Noma bank so tall. I was impressed.
