Lots of local shops around this area. Great place to purchase some souvenirs if requires. Lovely place to be at night with the street lit up. However it can be quite crowded and noisy. There is also the Sensoji temple nearby which is the oldest temple in Tokyo.

I liked it, interesting shops, cover market which is great in rainy days. Different food vendors with different options, close to multiple attractions. Do not leave the area without going through this shopping street. Communication will be always an issue in Japan:)

Nakamise Shopping Street is a Fantastic bustling market that has everything you could want as a tourist from snacks and treats to kimonos and lucky cats. Prices to tend to take advantage of the captive foreign audience but there is an abundance of choice that ensures you find a good deal for your souvenirs. Lovely atmosphere as dusk sets in with vendors who are happy for you to browse their wares. The streets are really crowded and full of tourists from all around the world, so don’t worry if you don’t like the crowds because all the people here really friendly are polite. Believe me you feel in love with this place from the first second. Enjoy your time here.

Great location for anything you need for souvenirs, food, and plenty of other really interesting items. Stalls range from cheaper items to some high quality stuff. Beautifully lit at night and all the stalls have great artist work on the shutter doors.

仲見世商店街 (Nakamise shōten machi) Nakamise Shopping Street is the commercial heart of the Sensoji Temple precincts. It starts at the Kaminarimon Gate and extends to the Hozomon Gate. The shops sell food treats, souvenirs and a whole lot more. It is generally mobbed so I thought I would post some pictures at night and in the early morning. Many of the shops have engaging paintings on their shutters.

There are many different store around and it took us 2-3hours to walk through most of the shops. Many of them sells cute decorative items and key chains. We bought Ice-cream at one of the stall which we think is overpriced. (330yen for a small Ice-cream) Most of the shops closed at 6pm however some stay open till 7-8pm till their leftover food is finished. A great place for window-shopping.

The Nakamise-dōri is a street on the approach to the temple. It is said to have come about in the early 18th century, when neighbors of Sensō-ji were granted permission to set up shops on the approach to the temple. However, in May 1885 the government of Tokyo ordered all shop owners to leave. In December of that same year the area was reconstructed in Western-style brick. During the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake many of the shops were destroyed, then rebuilt in 1925 using concrete, only to be destroyed again during the bombings of World War II. The length of the street is approximately 250 meters and contains around 89 shops.
