It is a viewing spot overlooking Sotaki, one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan. You can see the waterfall from a distance

* 2021/11 weekdays It is a scenery that can only be seen for half of the year. I was able to see a wonderful view because I was just in time for the autumn leaves season.

There is a parking lot (only for day trippers?) Near the entrance of the old-fashioned hot spring town "Tsubame Onsen", from which you can go through the hot spring town to Sotaki Observatory. After passing through the hot spring town, the sign will show the Mt. Myoko mountain climbing route on the left. Along the way, there are "Golden Hot Spring (free open-air bath)" and "Sotaki Observatory". Those who only telephoto at the observatory choose the route on the left and proceed. After climbing the stairs and climbing the gentle slope for a while, you will reach the open-air bath "Golden Hot Spring". The observatory will be further up, so take the bath sideways and go further. It's not a particularly steep slope, but it's quite difficult just to climb straight up, so if you get tired, it's better to take a break and go leisurely. If you walk for a while, you will see a point where you can see Sotaki. A waterfall over Okurazawa, upstream of the Otagiri River, which originates from the Shiroyama massif and Mt. Myoko. Head 80 ㍍, width 6 ㍍. One of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan. I didn't visit because I didn't have time, but if you go to the right on the sign, you will see the mountain climbing route of Mt. Hiuchi, which leads to "Kawahara no Yu (free open-air bath)" and "So Falls". It seems that it takes about 30 to 40 minutes to reach the position where you can see Sotaki. The promenade is good halfway, but it seems to be a very dangerous road with some collapsed parts and chains. On the way, you can see the avant-garde waterfall of Sotaki and the "Gongen waterfall" with a head of 26 m, but as of November 2020, the branch to the waterfall basin is closed due to the collapse of the mountain trail. We do not recommend visiting unless you like waterfalls or are daredevils. Even from the observatory, you will be able to see the scenery that is enough to be selected as one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan. However, it is a little far from the observatory, so it would be nice to have a telephoto camera or binoculars.

It is a waterfall with a head of 80 meters over the Otagiri River (100 selections of waterfalls in Japan). The waterfall seen from the observatory is quite far, but there seems to be a way to the basin. From Tsubame Onsen to the observatory, climb the well-maintained stairs. There are many signs, so I don't think you'll get lost.

Visit 2021.10 If you climb the slope for another 3 minutes from "Golden Hot Spring", there is a place where you can see Sotaki, which has been selected as one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan, between the trees, and that is the observatory. Since it is a waterfall with a head of 80 meters, you can feel the power of the water flowing down even from a distance! Since I visited around the end of October, the co-starring with the autumn leaves was wonderful ?
