This year, 5/3 was not able to pass through the north side from the pass due to winter closure. The road is a paved road with a width of one car, and there are many small fallen rocks and fallen leaves. Let's run slowly.

The pass road is quite narrow on the Akakura side. In summer, there are places where grass and branches and leaves are growing on both sides and the width of the car is just around the corner. I think that it is better for people not to go nervous for car injuries. On Obanazawa side there is no problem if it is about a microbus. It is closed in winter.

It is known as a difficult place that Matsuo Satoshi passed with his disciple Aira in 1689. The “Historic Road”, which is said to have walked at that time, is maintained as a walking path and runs through the road while repeating ninety nine folds in small increments. 峠 is a parking lot and has a toilet and an arbor. During winter, traffic will be closed, but around May, the Obanazawa side will be preceded and traffic to the pass will be canceled, and the uppermost side will be open around July. The old road is a narrow road with about 1 to 1.5 lanes, and there are many hairpin curves.

The prefectural road 28 that connects Mogami Town in Yamagata Prefecture with Obanazawa City is now a [Yamatou Tunnel] and can be moved easily, but it was once a difficult point. In the Edo period, when Matsuo Passed through here, he seemed to have to worry about the appearance of bandits. There was an old road, and I dared to go there. There is a parking lot near the top of the pass, and walk from here to the top. [Oku no Hosomichi Monument] is built and a passage of [Oku Hosomichi] is carved. I was relieved when I came down safely to Obanazawa side. ① It is difficult to drive because the road is narrow and winding. ② A bear may appear. * ③ Winter traffic may be restricted.
It is said that it was the narrowest part of the narrow alley in the back of the Matsuo Pass as "Tall mountain forest, under the darkness of the tree, thickened, and going to go out at night". It is a personal imagination with no basis in academic terms, but it is not hard to imagine that it would have been a steep mountain road except for a major street route at that time, except for a major route. It seems like it was a sloppy, but perhaps it is a self-intuitive imagining that it would have been Bhotak that it would be better for him to be physically threatened because he is a traveler and to have a guide. It is not something that denies the content, and it would be fun to go around those days and let these various ideas go around. By the way, the current mountain sword can go over the tunnel immediately, but there is also a stage of the narrow path in the back, the old road is left and it can pass except winter. However, since the Akakura side is narrow and can not pass each other basically, it would be better to access from the Ohanazawa side where there is ample road width if it is a car. At the time of the middle of May this time, Akakura side was still closed in winter. There is a stall with a stairwell with a pillar and a toilet showing a mountain-cutting rod in the wall. Furthermore, the sidewalk is extended and I can go to the original fort, so I would like to go over the direction in which I'm interested, but I'm scared of the bear so I got rid of it early. Incidentally, it was a complete aside, but when the summer came before, there were several wasps flying around, and they were already leaving early. (It is said that they come to the black ones, but they also come to the body of the white car)
