この、東平王塚も様々な説が有る
『逢隈川の舟より下りて 行く道の辺りに 一つの塚あり 往来の人の所為と覚えて あたりの木に詩歌など多数書き付けたり 昔 とうへいわう と云ひける 唐人の墓なり 故郷を恋ひつつ 此処にて身まかりけるが その思ひの末にや 塚の上の草木も 皆西へかたむくと申しならわせり と語る人ありしかば いと哀れに覚えて、、、。
という話も有れば、東山道の更に奥に大野田が有り
大野田地区は、南の名取川と北の旧笊川とに囲まれた地域
たび重なる洪水で土砂がたい積し、小高い土地になっている
人々が暮らし始めたのは、4500年以上前から
言い伝えによれば、かつて、「東平王」と呼ばれる有力者がおり、この王を葬った墓は「王ノ壇」といい、それが「大野田」になったという
謎の多い人物の眠る場所、歴史街道に相応しい古墳
たまに、草刈りされている以外は特に保存されていないのが惜しい所
