★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 明治大学の始まりは1881（明治14）年に岸本辰雄、宮城浩蔵、矢代操の三人の創立者によって開校された明治法律学校です。
校歌にも「白雲なびく駿河台♪」とあるように神田駿河台の学校として日本国内で広く知られていますが、開校当時の明治法律学校は当時の麹町区の数寄屋橋の一角となる旧島原藩上屋敷跡に開校されたそうです。現在の有楽町・数寄屋橋交差点近くになります。
開校5年後の1886年（明治19年）には現在の神田駿河台へ移転し、現在の明治大学の繁栄につながっています。
野球部、ラグビー部の活躍が知られ、昭和の時代は応援団の活動も盛んで男臭い大学でしたが、校舎がたてかえられてリバティホールなどの新しい校舎に切り替わると、都会的な大学というイメージが強まって女子学生の人気が高まり、受験者数も国内大学のトップになりました。
駿河台界隈には今でも昭和からの楽器店が多く、ここは昭和の匂いが残っているように感じられます。
 The beginning of Meiji University is the Meiji Law School, which was opened in 1881 by the three founders of Tatsuo Kishimoto, Kozo Miyagi, and Misao Yashiro.
It is widely known in Japan as a school of Kanda Surugadai, as the school song says "Hakuun fluttering Surugadai ♪", but the Meiji Law School at the time of opening was the former Shimabara Domain, which was a part of Sukiyabashi in Kojimachi Ward at that time. It seems that the school was opened on the site of the mansion. It will be near the current Yurakucho / Sukiyabashi intersection.
In 1886 (Meiji 19), five years after the school opened, it moved to the current Kanda Surugadai, which has led to the prosperity of the current Meiji University.
The baseball club and rugby club are known to be active, and in the Showa era, the cheering party was active and it was a manly university, but when the school building was replaced and switched to a new school building such as Liberty Hall, it was an urban university. The image of this became stronger, and the popularity of female students increased, and the number of examinees became the top of the domestic universities.
There are still many musical instrument stores from the Showa era in the Surugadai area, and it seems that the scent of the Showa era remains here.

「白雲なびく駿河台」って校歌が有名なんだけど、
場所は駿河台ではなく有楽町にあった。
自分が受験した当時（90年代）には、
リバティータワーはなく、駿河台校舎はトイレが
メチャ汚なかったのと、受験日に校舎前にいた学ランを着た応援団の方が怖そーな印象が残っている。
昔は明治は、地方から上京した田舎者でたくさん。ザ・バンカラの象徴とも言える大学だった。
まあそんな校風が好きだったのだが。
それが今や男性だけなく女性からも人気で、一番人気のブランド校。しかもMARCHで一番偏差値が高くなったみたいだが、僕らの時代は、立教>青学=明治>中央=法政って印象。
たしかに駿河台や明大前にいる学生さん見ても、なんだか垢抜けててイケてる男女の印象がある。
昔明治に漠然と憧れがあって、現役浪人時にたくさん明治を受験して、入学金まで払って明治には行かず…でも今でも隠れファンだったりする。
大学野球や大学ラグビーは未だに明治を応援してる。
そうそう。資格試験でリバティータワーに行った時には、ちょっと感動した。

A long time ago, I had a vague admiration for the Meiji era, and when I was an active ronin, I took a lot of Meiji exams and didn't pay the entrance fee to go to the Meiji era ... but I'm still a hidden fan.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Horrible university, their treatment of foreign students is unbelievable. They seem to be biased. I felt very unwelcome. If you are an international student I don’t recommend trying to apply to this university, it seems they would do anything to not take you in.
