The beginning of Meiji University is the Meiji Law School, which was opened in 1881 by the three founders of Tatsuo Kishimoto, Kozo Miyagi, and Misao Yashiro. It is widely known in Japan as a school of Kanda Surugadai, as the school song says "Hakuun fluttering Surugadai ♪", but the Meiji Law School at the time of opening was the former Shimabara Domain, which was a part of Sukiyabashi in Kojimachi Ward at that time. It seems that the school was opened on the site of the mansion. It will be near the current Yurakucho / Sukiyabashi intersection. In 1886 (Meiji 19), five years after the school opened, it moved to the current Kanda Surugadai, which has led to the prosperity of the current Meiji University. The baseball club and rugby club are known to be active, and in the Showa era, the cheering party was active and it was a manly university, but when the school building was replaced and switched to a new school building such as Liberty Hall, it was an urban university. The image of this became stronger, and the popularity of female students increased, and the number of examinees became the top of the domestic universities. There are still many musical instrument stores from the Showa era in the Surugadai area, and it seems that the scent of the Showa era remains here.

Originally the Meiji Law School founded in 1881. The school song "Hakuun fluttering Surugadai" is famous, The place was not in Surugadai but in Yurakucho. At the time I took the exam (90s), There is no Liberty Tower, and the Surugadai school building has a toilet The impression that the cheering party wearing the school uniform that was in front of the school building on the day of the examination was scarier remains that it was not dirty. In the olden days, the Meiji era was full of rural people who came to Tokyo from rural areas. It was a university that could be said to be a symbol of The Bankara. Well, I liked that kind of school spirit. It is now popular not only with men but also with women, and is the most popular brand school. Moreover, it seems that the deviation value was the highest in MARCH, but in our time, I got the impression that Rikkyo> Seigaku = Meiji> Chuo = Hosei. Certainly, even if you look at the students in Surugadai and Meidaimae, there is an impression of men and women who are somewhat clean and cool. A long time ago, I had a vague admiration for the Meiji era, and when I was an active ronin, I took a lot of Meiji exams and didn't pay the entrance fee to go to the Meiji era ... but I'm still a hidden fan. College baseball and college rugby still support the Meiji era. Yes Yes. When I went to Liberty Tower for the qualification test, I was a little impressed.

The cafeteria at 17th floor of the Liberty Tower gives you a nice view of central Tokyo and a cheap lunch/dinner

Horrible university, their treatment of foreign students is unbelievable. They seem to be biased. I felt very unwelcome. If you are an international student I don’t recommend trying to apply to this university, it seems they would do anything to not take you in.

Good location for a university. The higher floors discussion room for postgraduate students offer a nice view of Tokyo. The teachers and staff are very learned and helpful.
