★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 1889年（明治22年）に小山駅側から伸延した両毛鉄道の小山駅として開業。1ヶ月遅れて高崎駅側から日本鉄道も乗り入れ、元々利根川の西側にあった日本鉄道の小山駅は廃止された。日本鉄道の時代を経て1906年（明治39年）国有化。
 Opened in 1889 (Meiji 22) as Oyama Station on the Ryomo Railway, which extended from the Oyama Station side. One month later, the Nippon Railway also entered from the Takasaki Station side, and Oyama Station of the Nippon Railway, which was originally on the west side of the Tone River, was abolished. Nationalized in 1906 (Meiji 39) after the era of the Japanese railway.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 駅前広場はとても広いのですが、人が全然いなくて驚きました。都内だったら、ありえない光景が広がっていました。
The station square is very large, but I was surprised that there were no people at all. In Tokyo, an impossible scene was spreading.
