Kuragano is not only a post station in Nakasendo, but also the starting point of Nikko-Reiheishi Highway, and there is also a Takasebune from this riverbank to Edo. The fare for the boat was about half that of the land route, so rice from Echigo was also transported from here to Edo. Of course, there were many people carrying boatmen and luggage, and there were also many travelers and merchants who came and went, so for that purpose, each hatago had a prostitute called Meshimori onna. It is said that at its peak, it reached more than 200 people. It was not allowed to create a Yukaku in the post station, but instead it was allowed as a special case to have two prostitutes in each hatago. At the post station, every time a daimyo passed by, it was obligatory to put out a large number of people and horses, and all of these expenses were borne by the town. In order to generate the financial resources, it seems that he has paid a huge amount of money by allowing him to have a prostitute in particular. The prostitutes in Kuragano-shuku are well known to travelers, and Jippensha Ikku also wrote the following kyoka in "Zokuknee Kurige". Take a look at the ride Iimori of Kuragano-shuku on horseback It was well received by travelers, but it seems that the nearby naive peasants were caught by a bad woman, and instead of having money, they were stripped off and ended up going home. In such a case, it is the usual excuse of the owners to say, "I was turned into a fox," and for this reason, the legend of a bad fox remains in Kuragano-shuku. There must have been a female fox who was worse than a real fox (* ^^ *)

I felt that I was connected to Kurakano hotel by walking. I learned from the explanation that Ushikado and Makai are divided, but it seems to be certain that Kurakano Kashiwa has become the turning point.

It is a pier site that prospered about 200 years ago and prospered by going to and from Edo. Now that vestige is fading.

During the Edo period, it was popular as a dock for Kuragano-shuku.

I feel relieved to be able to finally recover from the damage caused by the typhoon and enjoy the cherry blossoms. I think it was a busy pier for Kuragano-shuku during the Edo period, but it is now quiet. I think I can hear the children's cheerful voices. It's a pity that we can't take shelter from the rain, but except for the rain, it's definitely the best place to go, especially when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, so I think it's a good place to take a walk.

A place that has been a landing site (river bank) as a key point for freight traffic since the Edo period. It seems that boat cargo has declined and disappeared due to the opening of the Takasaki Line.
