国府台城跡

When I checked the access to the castle ruins in advance on Google map Street View, I saw the entrance facing National Highway No. 465 and the concrete paved slope toward the Five Pillar Shrine. I climbed here when I visited (using a first-class motorized bicycle (MT)), but unlike the climbing angle (which would be gentle) recognized in Street View, it was a fairly steep slope, so I was impatient for a moment. , I managed to reach the upper stage with a half-class. Apparently this road was for pedestrians. The castle area seems to be the flat land that seems to be the main enclosure where the shrine is built, and the flat land of the orchard (where persimmon trees grow) that goes down one step to the south. There are few other elements that make up the castle, but there are steep cliffs on the west and northwest sides, and below that is the flow of the Isumi River. As you can see on the map, the Isumi River is meandering considerably, which is a characteristic of the river formed in the plains. This castle would be a typical structure that uses the meandering river as a natural water moat. There is a lot of traffic along the national highway, and if you are surrounded by silence, the Isumi River's porridge seems to be comfortable. At the southeastern end of the flat land of the orchard, there was a small radio tower, but from the south side there was a road that could accommodate one car climbing the plateau. It's a good idea to follow this road when visiting.
