★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A famous (though not so old) hotel and bathing facility, which are nothing special without the open air bath (rotenburo) overlooking the sea. The water temperature is not adjusted so prepare for a boiling hot bath in iron-rich, orange tinted water. You can borrow towels etc. for a nominal charge.
There is an occasional bus service to a JR station for daytrippers.
While I did not stay at the hotel, the facilities look a bit dated and standard. However they offer access to their rooftop in the summer for star gazing, taking advantage of the lack of light pollution in the area. Nice idea, just don't forget your anti mosquito spray!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I stayed here for 1 night and tried the outdoor onsen. The view of the outdoor onsen is quite spectacular (directly facing japan sea). The food quality( especially the dinner set meal) is very good. The seafood quality is excellent. The staff altough only speaks limited english is very friendly and helpful. You can go to this place by using resort shirakami train from aomori or hirosaki and then stop at wespa tsubakiyama station and the hotel will provide you a free shuttle.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Only speaking about the onsen and not the hotel, the facilities were great. Clean and spacious, it has a retro feel. Free shuttle from the Wespa Tsubakiyama Station on the Gono line. There is a large lounge area to enjoy the view after the onsen. The onsen bath is outside and is such an experience. Highly recommended stop if you are in the area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went in to use the onsen only, and the staff could see my small tattoos on my arms as I walked in. There was no problem with my small tattoos which I really appreciated. Friendly to foreigners which makes this place so special. The outside bath is beautiful and included in the price, and it's also relaxed. It's not too fancy which I really liked. You can hire a towel set and yukata which was very convenient.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The hotel is nice but unremarkable. The onsen looks out across the ocean and is divided into women and mixed bathing. I recommend visiting in the evening to watch the sunset while listening to the waves and relaxing in the bath.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice Onsen on the sea front. Wonderful experience, but poor practicality as the shower and bathing area is a five minute walk from the outdoor bath. Mixed bathing area is great as my wife could enjoy the experience with us. Maybe better is three baths - male, female and mixed so women wouldn’t be as self-conscious? A lovely experience and one which didn’t disappoint

I went to Furoufushi-Onsen hotspring by train with my workplace colleagues.
The weather was not so good, but we enjoyed the ocean view of Gono line from the train and delicious seafoods.
It took 7 hours from Tokyo Station to Furoufushi-Onsen.
There is no stores, but a few houses.
It was very calm around the inn, the only sound heard was that of waves.
Especially, the hot spring was really great. The Open-air bath is very close to the sea. Sprash of waves was powerful. The sky and seagulls were beatiful.
Live abalone BBQ was awesome.
I took the photo of the sea at Senjojiki Station.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The outdoor seaside bath was closed when I went here due to the weather conditions, so it’s a good idea to call and confirm before you head here. However, the indoor baths have an extension which overlooks the sea (see the photos below) and that was nice too. The food is good too. Free pick up and drop to the WeSpa Tsubakiyama station (Resort Shirakami Express timetable followed).
