★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I would definitely re-visit if I ever have the chance to. The western-style room at the Shogetsu Terrace was amazing. Both the dinner and breakfast were wonderfully prepared!
Such a quiet spot and a healing trip.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A stay at Kotohira Kadan was a superlative experience. Location was great- we walked to get to everywhere. Transportation to the city and touring is just around the corner. Staff's explanation is clear and willing to introduce different facilities in the room for us. The service is ok for modern Ryokan. Excellent value most times of the year.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dinner and breakfast are very good. Staffs are pleasant. We booked a premium room which includes a session in the private bath, but we're told it was fully booked on the day...so that was wasted. Also booked breakfast at 8, and was told it was full as well and rescheduled to 7.30..

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice place. The owners are sadly pretty anti non-japanese. We felt disliked and mistreated. We were for example seated in a tiny windowless room for breakfast instead of the luxurious other room with a view. We asked to be seated elsewhere but were denied. I would not recommend this to any European or American guests.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Me and my husband stayed there for 1 night only. I loved every single detail. The location of the hotel makes walking around the city very easy. The entire hotel was very clean. In the morning you have ***y options for transportation. The location of the hotel is great and convenient.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Only Japanese style breakfast is available. The hotel has a public onsen free of charge (open from 5am to midnight) and foot bath. We could have gone to the market and do this ourselves There was absolutely no effort made by the hotel to provide a good dining experience despite our paying over USD80 per person for each dinner set.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The whole hotel is just wonderful. We were always greeted with a friendly smile. The hotel breakfast buffet in the morning was pretty good. Breakfast had a good broad range of options. You can enjoy the pairing of well prepared Japanese course meal with local Sake, Beer as well as international wines.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I felt pretty lucky to experience such a grand and beautiful ryokan. I was amazed at how large the hotel and beautiful garden grounds were. Although I am no expert, I thought the architecture, interior design and facilities were very impressive. Nice mix of contemporary and traditional Japanese. The room I booked was beautiful and really well appointed with a private outdoor bath or ofuro.
The staff were really professional and friendly and gave me some great tips on best places to explore in the immediate area.
The clientele seemed appropriately well to do and I felt a bit out of place rolling in on my pushbike after a long and sweaty day on road. Regardless of this the staff treated me perfectly well. Breakfast was traditionally Japanese Ryokan style and I felt happy and healthy after enjoying every bite.
I went out for a local dinner on the way back from Konpira San but wish I had booked dinner at Kotahira Kadan as I believe it would have also been fantastic.
Highly recommend and if I am ever back in Kotohira, I will stay at Kotohira Kadan again.
