The signpost is also called "Michishirube", and the direction, distance, route to the destination, etc. from the current location to the destination. It is a stone column with the destination and distance engraved on it, and is built at the fork of the highway. Although its value has diminished and its number has decreased with the development of transportation, it is a valuable cultural property that allows you to know the state of transportation at that time. This signpost was built along the Shirakawa Highway in 1846 at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, and describes the route to Kitano Tenmangu, Yoshida Shrine, and East-West Honganji Temple. The applicant is a "conspiracy". (Source: Kyoto City)
