★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 地下鉄東西線 醍醐駅の近く。 幹線道路から細い脇道に入ったところに 赤い鳥居が建っており、 石段を 100段ほど登る。
こじんまりとした神社。 よく見ると 車でもあがって来れる道があった。 ただしその入り口には鎖がかかっており 入れない。
神社本殿そのものは再建されたものなが、 小規模神社としての静寂さもあり、 落ち着いた雰囲気である。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 参道の階段がなかなかヘビー。しかしそれ故に車で行ける道を作ってしまったのは、事情は理解しつつ、残念。本殿に屋根をつけてしまったのも、残念。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 交通量の多い車道から少し山側に入ると、斜面に面して鳥居があります。鳥居から長い階段の参道を登っていくと境内になり、社殿や御神木があります。
立札によると、祭神は伊邪那岐命及び伊邪那美命です。
創社については、立札によると、火災にあって正確な創立の年代はわからないそうですが、口傳に依ると法琳寺が創建されたとき、その鬼門除けに、この地に天神社を建立されたとも傳えられるとのことです。法琳寺は藤原鎌足の長子、定慧の創建と傳られているところから、天智天皇の御代（西暦六七〇年頃）で約千三百年前に當る。以来、北小栗栖の産土神として崇敬を受け親しまれて来た。とのことです。
法琳寺跡は当地の南西にあります。
