三国街道は吾妻川を渡り北は高山村、南は渋川に繋がっていました。
川の渡河地点は宿場となるのは、ここ以外にも中仙道の板鼻宿などがあります。
It is the remains of Kitamaki post of Mikuni highway.
The Mikuni highway crosses the Azuma River and is connected to Takayama village in the north and Shibukawa in the south.
Other than here, there are Itano-no-Yado lodgings of Nakasendo that will be the postbanks of the river crossing.

すぐ近くに杢ヶ関関所がある為、ここで宿泊する人も多く、旅籠が軒を連ねていました。
また、草津へ向かう草津道、真田へ向かう真田道などの分岐点でもあり、行き交う人馬で賑わっていました。
天明3年(1783年)の浅間山大噴火では壊滅的な被害を受けましたが、懸命の努力で復興を果たしました。
東から芝宿、古宿、新田宿と別れていましたが、そのうち新田宿は道の中央に水路があり、往時の面影を残しています(^_^ゞ

Because there is Kasumigaseki Seki-eki nearby, there are many people staying here, and there are a number of traveling places.
In addition, it was a turning point such as Kusatsu-do heading to Kusatsu and Sanada-do heading to Sanada, and it was full of people who went and gone.
It was devastatingly damaged by the Asamayama eruption in 1783. However, it was recovered with hard effort.
We separated from Shibajuku, Koyado, Nitta hotel from the east, but of these, Nitta hotel has a water channel in the center of the road, leaving a reminiscence of the past
