The museum was sadly underwhelming, there was surprisingly little useful information about sharks.

This is pretty cool place! It also has good restaurants, gift shops and you can get fresh seafoods!

Personally, this museum is quite disturbing as it basically masks the horrors of the sharkfin industry. I can't judge them because it is their culture but if you are aware and sensitive to commercial whaling and shark industry, don't visit this place.

The museum was still recovering from the 3/11 tsunami when I was there in December, 2011. Looking forward to seeing it next time I am in Tohoku.

It is a small museum split into two, one side is an exhibit on 3.11 disaster and the other side is the shark museum. Apart from the videos shown on the 3.11 disaster, everything is in Japanese. Videos are interesting but I would recommend visiting the high school that has been preserved and turned into a museum on the 3.11 disaster as better place to learn about it. It is not really worth the 500 yen entry fee.

The museum is fun with the shark models and interesting info about sharks. Also some great info and video/pictures of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that decimated the area. In addition to the museum - the building houses a tourist info center, ice aquarium, restaurants, gift shops, and access to an deck that overlooks the port - definitely check that out for the views. This is a must for any Kesennuma visit.

This museum is wonderful, *if* you come knowing what it is. It's half-2011 memorial, half shark museum. As for sharks, there's little-to-no English signage, but the exibits are still fun to look at. As far as the 2011 disaster goes, it's a great place to learn about how the town suffered so greatly during the disaster.
