創建についてはそと年代経過は詳らかではないが、安永二年（１７７３）十一月の風土記によれば、既にこの年代は建立されてあり、社号を春日大明神と呼び、祭日は九月九日であると記載されている。
その後文政元年（１８１８）社殿の造営が行われた。明治前半の代にそれまで境内にあった山神を拝殿内に祀り、この当時から祭日を七月十九日とした。
昭和三十二年（１９５７）十二月十四日、神社本庁統理の名によって宗教法人春日神社の承認をうけ現在に至る。
